Staying Out of the Clouds

Flying in Alaska has always felt deeply spiritual to me.

There is something about lifting off the ground and seeing life from above that shifts my perspective. From the air, everything looks different — smaller, clearer, more ordered. It reminds me that God’s view is far better than mine. He sees what I cannot see from the ground, not just where I am, but where I am going.

At the same time, flying has taught me respect. Weather matters. Visibility matters. Pilots learn quickly that you do not wander into the clouds casually. Getting “lost in the soup” can be dangerous.

That lesson has stayed with me.

Reading Scripture does the same thing for my soul. It keeps my eyes open to truth. It helps me stay oriented when life gets foggy and emotions begin to cloud what I know to be true. God’s Word keeps me grounded, yet guided — connected to the One who sees all and knows the safest path forward.

Faith does not mean guessing our way through the clouds. It means trusting the One who gives direction from above.

I am reminded of Isaiah 30:21:

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

What helps keep you out of the “soup” in your life?
